Brasidas was founded in 2014 to provide investors a way to gain exposure to Asia's increasing participation in global event activity. Our namesake Brasidas was a Spartan commander in Thucydides seminal work 'The Peloponnesian War.' Brasidas was known for employing unconventional and asymmetric strategies to secure Peloponnesian interests during the war. We believe the hero's martial excellence and 'wise moderation' is emulated in our own approach to portfolio management.

About our Managers
Porfolio managers Jon Withaar and Steven Deitch have a combined 30 years of experience investing in Asia event-driven strategies. They have been a team since 2010, including 4 years managing capital together at Millennium Management. Our portfolio managers are able to capitalize on the increasing event activity inside Asia and the globalization of mergers and acquisitions through their deep regional networks and expertise investing in Asia.
Jon Withaar
Founder / CIO
Jon Withaar brings over 16 years of experience managing risk across the Asian markets. Prior to forming Brasidas, he was a Senior Portfolio Manager with Millennium Management in New York for over 4 years where he gained extensive experience managing risk in volatile markets specializing in even driven and special situations. Previous to this, he was Director and Head of the Principal Trading Group at Citigroup in Sydney where he managed a team capitalizing on a wide range of pan-Asian situations across the capital structure. Jon graduated from the University of Canberra with a degree in Finance majoring in Law in 2000 and has studied post graduate courses on derivatives and risk.

Steve Deitch has 14 years of experience managing investments across event driven and fundamental hedge fund strategies. Prior to forming Brasidas with Jon, the two worked together at Millenium Management managing an event driven portfolio. Steve also held portfolio manager and senior research analyst roles at Balyasny Asset Management and Black Arrow Capital Management specializing in low net exposure, fundamental and catalyst driven trading strategies. Steve completed his bachelor of science degrees in Finance and International Business at the Pennsylvania State University and a curriculum in Asain Economics at the University of Queensland, Australia.
